FLUI Design Jam
2024–2025
FLUI is a student-run design hackathon at Emily Carr University. I was the first hire after the president. I ran the content strategy, led a team of three, and ended the year hosting the closing ceremony.

Strategy
Meet the team, show why it's worth a week, then sell. I timed every phase to something another team was shipping, so we always had a reason to post.
Team intros, a waitlist form, and a "big reveal soon" post with a 3-day story countdown.
Content
I wrote every caption and every line of text on our posts. Everything went to both Instagram and LinkedIn, rewritten for each audience: playful and "link in bio" for students, direct links and fuller detail for industry. The tone was casual yet professional: it's run by students, but people come hoping it leads to a job.

I edited every video. For reels the design leads were in, I wrote the brief: the script, the shot list, which parts were voiceover, and how to film them. The logo and mascot motion reveals were my concept and direction, made by the branding team.

Countdowns sold tickets.
I watched every post and story and kept changing the mix. One pattern stood out: each time we ran a countdown on our stories, ticket sales jumped. So we ran them on purpose, before the brand reveal, before ticket sales closed, and before the event.
Story: 3 days left
Story: 2 days left
Story: ends tomorrow
Result: Tickets sold out
Leadership
A team of three, and one Notion workspace for all of FLUI.
I set up a Notion workspace for the whole FLUI team: a directory of who does what, and calendars of every sub-team's deadlines. For social media, I ran the campaign from it, with every caption written on its posting date so the team could comment until it was final. A weekly check-in, a task list after every meeting, and one rule: flag a slipping deadline before it slips.

Stage
Event week took me from moderating Discord to hosting on stage.
During the event week I moderated Discord and client meetings, and directed the photographers. I co-hosted the opening ceremony, then hosted the closing ceremony on my own and led the Q&A with the judges. I wrote every word I said.

Closing ceremony, hosted by me.
Lessons
I also wrote two handover documents so next year's team doesn't start from zero.
A good plan is one you can change.
Schedule months ahead, and be ready to rewrite it the night before.
Ask for stakeholder details on day one.
Photos and job titles get harder to find the closer the event gets.
Say yes to the scary thing.
I didn't plan to host a ceremony. It was the best part of the year.
